Please don't! In fact, watering it may cause the protective coating to deteriorate. We recommend you keep it away from direct sunlight and in a regular indoor environment.
The moss is not alive. It undergoes a preservation process that halts its natural decomposition while maintaining its appearance and texture. Unlike most moss art on the market today where the preservation process is packed with chemicals like formaldehyde, at The Mossery, we strictly use moss preserved in the most environmentally responsible ways. Our moss is processed with glycerin, derived from vegetable oil, and food coloring, to maintain its appearance.
At the heart of our environmental efforts lie two core principles.
Firstly, we're staunch advocates of the "reduce, reuse, recycle" mantra, as endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Every purchase with us champions resource conservation, waste reduction, and climate change mitigation. Our commitment is evident in the reclaimed materials we incorporate into each piece, such as locally sourced fallen trees or reclaimed mirrors.
Additionally, we're steadfast in our commitment to avoiding plastic-based materials and those high in VOC (volatile organic compounds). Instead, we invest in biodegradable and recyclable alternatives, even if they come at a higher cost. We firmly believe that supporting environmentally responsible businesses paves the way for a more sustainable planet for all.
We ship to U.S. domestic regions. All orders receive complementary shipping.
It's so tempting! We totally understand; however, we recommend against it as the oils and moisture in our hands can disrupt the protective coating on the moss. Overtime, it could cause it to lose its vibrancy.
These are 100% handmade from Austin, TX, in a solar-powered studio.
Ethically sourced moss means selecting suppliers who provide transparent information about the preservation process. Unlike many moss art products available in stores and online, which often lack details about their origins and the chemicals used in preservation and coloring, our carefully chosen suppliers offer clear outlines of these processes. It's important to note that many widely available moss products are preserved using formaldehyde, which can have harmful effects on both health and the environment. In contrast, we prioritize sustainability and safety by using moss preserved using glycerin and dyed using food coloring. By prioritizing transparency and accountability, we ensure that our moss art meets the highest ethical standards while minimizing environmental impact.
